To begin with we must thank everyone who participated in brightening up the town and surrounding area during the “Summer” months with their funny, ingenious or traditional scarecrows.

The range of characters was once again terrific with over 100 exhibits on view :- from burglars and brides and grooms to pirates, daleks and a remarkable metal sculpture by Derek Walter. Hippies, robots, parachutists, a very lifelike farmer with his collie dog, The Olympics and many of our favourite cartoon and super hero characters and numerous others ensured that judging would be very difficult once again.

Richard and Helen Rumbold kindly selected 12 finalists which were then passed to our Mayor and Mayoress, Harold and Joyce Martin, to make the final judgements. I understand that there was a lot of discussion and heated debate until the final 3 were eventually decided on.

Results as advised by The Mayor and Mayoress.

To close we offer our grateful thanks and appreciation to The George Wimpey Organisation for sponsoring this event and once again our thanks to everyone who took part in adding something a little different to our special town. We hope that with a decent summer, next year‘s competition will be just as good.
Well done to all
