What a lovely day and the Cavaliers were busy again, in the square at 7am to setup for the day ahead, breakfast in the Black Horse then:
The Cavaliers theme this year was Sweden to celebrate 50 years of Dartington Crystal in Great Torrington -
Our excellent team of Cavalier dancers had been practicing the ABBA routine for the past 3 months and what a show they put on well done lads!

After a well deserved break for a drink or two came our afternoons event, keeping with the Swedish theme we staged the Great Swedish Challenge. Teams of 2 from the crowd entered to win £30 for 1st place and £20 for second. Each team had to dress in the swedish clothes and wear a helmet then run a meatball and spoon race to the top of the square where a jigsaw of the Swedish flag awaited (they didnt know it was painted on both sides!). When the flag was completed they ran down the square where they had to blow a peice of glass, as they do at Dartington, then run down to the finish. It was a great event enjoyed by all and our thanks go to those who entered.
The winners are below collecting their prizes from our Chairman Mark Keeley;
1st Place
and 2nd
The Cavaliers helped Father Christmas in his Peter Pan Grotto this year where he gave presents to all the children of Torrington. For the Parents there was mulled cider, hot chestnuts and mince pies and cream.
What a fabulous day it was!
It's been announced today that we've won the QUEEN'S AWARD FOR VOLUNTARY SERVICE!! We're absolutely thrilled and honoured to have received this prestigious award, equivalent to an MBE for volunteer groups! Thank you to those who nominated us and to the local community for supporting us over the past 46 years.
Cheers!
Great Torrington's crowning glory, our Mayfair, on the 1st Thursday of May. The Cavaliers had a busy day setting up at 7am and entertaining the crowds in the morning and again in the afternoon.
Our excellent dancing team trained for many weeks under the direction of Teri Adams, what a hard but excellent job she did and we are extrememely greatful for her help. The theme was a tribute to a true music legend, David Bowie.
In the afternoon we staged a very simple but very entertaining session;
Musical chairs and Hang Tough - The musical chairs was a 3 stage event the first for the under 10`s the second for the over 10`s and the 1 massive game for the Adults, it was a brilliant show.
I dont have any photos of the Hang Tough yet as I was timing, so when I get some I will post them here.
