The Torrington Cavaliers have announced that they made an incredible £48,000 from their latest fundraising efforts.

Over 10,000 people from all over the country enjoyed a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display on the August bank holiday weekend. The profits will now be distributed to charity.

Cavaliers chairman Steve Young said: “We’re absolutely delighted with the amount we’ve raised. The costs associated with putting on a show of this scale always increase, they never go down. So it’s a tricky balancing act between cost and maximizing profits.”

“It was a brilliant show, probably our best yet, and we’ve had emails from people all over the country, thanking us and saying how much they enjoyed it.”

Half of the profits now go to their two nominated charities, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Plough Arts Centre in Torrington. The other half, around £24,000, goes into a bonfire fund that people can apply to.

Cavaliers secretary Nick Hallam said: “Anyone can apply to the fund, but it’s primarily aimed at the smaller charities and good causes that wouldn’t normally be eligible for funding from other sources.”

“We’ll consider all applications on their merits and hope to make a decision by the end of November. We try our best to help everyone, but it depends how many apply. Last time we had over 100 applications.”
