1970s children's television classic "Trumpton" will be set alight
in a huge bonfire next month. The fictional village has been recreated
by volunteers from the Torrington Cavaliers to be burned as a charity
fundraiser on Saturday August 29.

"People can expect a spectacular show. We'll start off with a fantastic fireworks show from Two Tigers set to music then light the

fire and once the fire is well established there'll be a closing fireworks display probably the best you'll ever see in North Devon."

The blaze follows a long line of incredible bonfires in Torrington.
For the past 40 years, local men and women have created the displays.
They include a replica of HMS Victory and the Great Fire of London.

Quote:
"When we did the Victory that had to look like the Victory so we were
constrained with what we were building but with "Trumpton" there is a
bit of artistic licence so there's even a pub that's been built!"

– Chris Stacey, Treasurer Torrington Cavaliers

The bonfire is expected to raise many thousands of pounds for
Macmillan, The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington and other local good
causes.
