Community Awards 2015: North Devon's unsung heroes honoured at awards ceremony

NORTH Devon's extraordinary community has been celebrated and its unsung heroes honoured at last night's North Devon Journal Community Awards.

The awards ceremony was held at the Barnstaple Hotel, where the pillars of the North Devon community were recognised for their tireless support of those around them.

Across the region kind hearted folk are going the extra mile and the glitzy ceremony was a way of highlighting those people – young and old.

Speaking at the start of the ceremony, Journal editor Lisa Templeton said: "These awards are now in their third year and are very close to the hearts of the Journal team.........

.....The loudest cheer of the night came with the announcement of the winner of the Community Group award by Laura Evans, of headline sponsors Evans Transport.

The Great Torrington Cavalier kicked off a strong night for the North Devon town, taking home the award, which was collected by group chairman Steve Young.

Mr Young said: "It was a really nice surprise, in our 45 years this is the first award we've received.

"And it's thanks to the whole group, who not just enjoy the hero jobs like building the bonfires, but also do all the other everyday jobs for Torrington."
