Carnival was great fun.

Due to a clash with other events it was not possible to run the Fun day on the Commons, hopefully we can bring that back this year to help raise some funds and give a fun family day out.

 November bonfire went  well with good attendance and a extremely good profits.

Christmas and New Year – once again what a great few days. Again we gave away a record number of sweetie bags and  the feedback showed how much the whole event is appreciated. Once again our grateful  thanks go to Damien for all his hard work in the painting of the grotto.

The atmosphere in the square on New Year's Eve was fantastic and the night went off without any major problems.

In addition to all that there was the small matter of the QAVS award.

This was a well deserved recognition of all the efforts of Cavaliers past and present over the last 46 years and the support we receive from the community of Great Torrington. well done to everyone. And what a great day was had by those who made the trip to Exeter when we were presented with the award.

All the other less glamorous jobs have again been done with the usual enthusiasm despite the amount of bureaucracy thrown in our way.

 Thanks very much to all the officers for their help throughout the year.

Congratulations to Mark and John on becoming fully paid up members. Having turned up for many of this year's events  you can't say you don't know what you have let yourselves in for

But most all thanks to all Cavaliers for your help, support and enthusiasm and let's look forward to another successful year.

Stand down

As I said at the last meeting i will not be standing for re election as Chairman.

This is not a decision I have taken lightly but it I believe now is the right time. I have done much of the organisational work on the last two bonfires and I don't feel like I want to take full responsibility for another one. This does not mean I will not be available for help and advice if needed and I would be happy to take on specific jobs if required.

Standing down now gives the new Chairman time to settle in before preparations for 2020 begin in earnest.

There are a couple of jobs I would be happy to continue with if you agree such as Cavaliers talks to local organisations, I can usually make time available for these.  I would like to continue coordinating with the Museum on a display for Cavalier artefacts and also to try and collate much of the paperwork we have into an organised archive.

I am not going away and will be as vocal from the back as I have been from the front, maybe more so.

I wish all the officers the best of luck and I am only a phone call away for any help or advice

It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as Chairman and I thank you with all my heart for your support, dedication, fun and laughter over the last few years.
